Lithuanian athletes recognized for world championship wins

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius on Monday congratulated Lithuanian athletes who achieved excellent results: Edgaras Riabko, winner of the Formula 2 powerboat world championship, and the men’s U23 national team, who won the 3×3 basketball world championship title.

„The beauty and meaning of sport lie not only in victories. Sometimes, only a few seconds or one accurate shot separate one from them. However, at least for us, the spectators and fans, pride, a sense of community, and the shared emotion often make up for everything. In your case, we can also rejoice in excellent victories – the highest sporting results. I sincerely congratulate and am pleased that the Government can contribute with incentives,” said Prime Minister M. Sinkevičius.

By the Prime Minister’s decree, the International Powerboat Federation (UIM) Formula 2 world champion E. Riabko was awarded a monetary prize of 80 BSI. Identical awards were given to both 3×3 team coaches, Deividas Kumelis and Algirdas Stuknis.

The championship 3×3 U23 team at the world championships consisted of basketball players Kajus Leliukas, Nojus Vaivada, Paulius Velutis, Deividas Kumelis, and Rokas Jocys.

The head of the Government rejoiced that 3×3 basketball is keeping Lithuania’s flag high as a basketball nation, and that more spectators have discovered powerboat racing this year thanks to E. Riabko’s exceptional results.
