From January 28-29, Kaunas will host a meeting of EU member state representatives responsible for tourism policy, alongside the second international tourism forum titled „Designing Travel: What’s Next in 2027?”. This event will convene European tourism leaders, policymakers, and experts in tourism business, innovation, and destination management.
The forum is organized within the context of Lithuania’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union and coincides with the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism.
„Tourism is not just an important economic sector, but also an opportunity to create jobs, attract investments, and strengthen Lithuania’s regions. The upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union provides an opportunity to seek solutions with European partners that will help the tourism sector become more resilient, sustainable, and competitive,” stated the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Edvinas Grikšas.
Discussions at the event will focus on how to enhance the resilience of the tourism sector, promote sustainable tourism, and ensure that its economic benefits extend beyond major cities to regions and local communities.
The forum has already been presented at a meeting of the European Commission’s Tourism Advisory Committee (TAC) in Brussels. Presenting the event to European tourism policy representatives offers a chance to highlight Lithuania’s priorities and invite the international tourism community to discuss the sector’s future.
During the forum, Lithuanian and international experts will share practical examples of how cooperation between countries, local communities, the public sector, and businesses can foster more sustainable and resilient tourism. Among the planned speakers are experts in gastronomy and self-discovery travel.
The international tourism forum will take place in Kaunas.
